3M True Definition Scanner and Straumann CARES provide all-digital process for implant- and tooth-borne restorations.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota — 3M has announced a Trusted Connection to dental labs with the Straumann CARES System for the 3M True Definition Scanner.

With this new connection, dentists can restore Straumann implants with original CARES prosthetic solutions from a single intraoral scan. This new digital restoration process is the latest addition to a growing network of Trusted Connections available to dentists with the 3M True Definition Scanner.

“This new connection gives dentists a simple but powerful tool to initiate a highly sophisticated workflow,” said David Frazee, vice president and general manager, 3M Digital Oral Care.

“The final results are not only accurate and effective, but convey an impressive image to patients that lets them know their dentist is on the cutting edge.”

Using the new workflow, a dentist with the 3M True Definition Scanner captures a digital impression with the Straumann CARES Mono Scanbody. Within the scanner’s prescription screen, the dentist then selects the Straumann implant platform and the desired tooth-borne restoration or abutment. The digital impression and prescription are then sent to a dental lab using the Straumann CARES system.

The dental lab can design and order original prosthetics for implant-borne or tooth-borne restorations. For implant cases, Straumann CARES X-Stream provides a seamless process for designing and ordering the abutment and the final restoration in a single design. High precision resin working models with a socket for the Straumann Repositionable Implant Analog can be ordered directly from Innovation MediTech (a DREVE company). The dental lab then receives the restoration, abutment and model for finishing, and the dentist receives the completed case in a single shipment from the dental lab.

“The Trusted Connection is a great example of how we have teamed up with leading providers of intraoral scanning technology to offer more options, simpler solutions, greater precision and higher productivity to dental professionals,” said Frank Hemm, executive vice president — customer solutions and education, Straumann.

“Together with 3M ESPE, Dental Wings and Innovation MediTech, we offer a completely digital workflow — from digital impression to finished CAM prosthetic — with what we believe is an unparalleled level of choice, flexibility and precision.”

This new Trusted Connection is available to dentists who subscribe to the Advanced Data Plan offered with the 3M True Definition Scanner in North America. The Advanced Data Plan is a subscription to the 3M Connection Center, allowing dentists to send and store cases for a variety of indications, including digital implant workflows and clear aligner treatment from Invisalign.

All of the subscription-based data plan packages for dentists or labs include unlimited software upgrades and updates, so users always have the latest software without unexpected fees.

The Trusted Connection are scheduled to be available in the U.S., Belgium, Canada, Spain, Portugal, and in the Netherlands in summer 2014 with further European countries scheduled to follow in fall 2014.
