Bacterial analysis of periodontitis pathogens in less than 30 minutes

Jan. 3, 2013
A new mobile diagnostic platform allows identification of the 11 most relevant periodontitis pathogens within 30 minutes. The prototype was initially intended for use in clinical laboratories; however, it could also be used by dentists to carry out analysis of patient samples in their own practices.

Scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI in Leipzig have collaborated with two companies, BECIT GmbH and ERT-Optik, to develop a lab-on-a-chip module called ParoChip. This new mobile diagnostic platform allows identification of 11 of the most relevant periodontitis pathogens within a time frame of 30 minutes.
