CHICAGO — The American Dental Association (ADA) is offering a new publication, "The ADA Practical Guide to Patients with Medical Conditions," to help dentists deliver safe and coordinated care for patients with chronic medical conditions with a book that provides detailed references, images, and expert advice from 25 academicians and clinicians.

“We are pleased to offer a new book that delivers evidence-based, clinical, and practical information for dentists with a patient-focused approach to dental care,” said William R. Calnon, DDS, president of the American Dental Association.

The ADA Practical Guide addresses 20 medical topics including cardiovascular diseases, endocrine disorders, neurologic and psychiatric disorders, geriatric health and functional issues, HIV/AIDS, and medical emergencies. The book includes more than 200 images, 75 tables, and numerous quick reference points in each chapter. A companion website provides readers with downloadable images and tables, case studies, and a webliography with click-through links to online sources.

The ADA collaborated with Wiley-Blackwell, an international scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly publisher of nearly 1,500 peer-reviewed journals and 1,500+ new books annually in print and online.

The book is $59.95 for ADA members and $89.95 for nonmembers. To order, call (800) 947-4746 or visit adacatalog.org.
